Nowadays about half of road traffic emissions derive from non-exhaust processes such as direct emissions from wear of brake, tire and road dust suspension. Non-exhaust emissions (NEE) are projected to dominate traffic emissions within a few years, contributing heavily to degraded ambient air quality and public health. In addition to outdoor air, NEE also provoke high pollution in the underground transport system, where millions of passengers are exposed during their commuting. Nevertheless, the current knowledge on NEE mitigation is quite limited.
This Special Issue aims at collecting the most updated scientific evidence on laboratory and real-world effectiveness of technological and non-technological measures to reduce non-exhaust emissions, both outdoor and indoor (subway systems).
We encourage scientists from the vehicles and tunnel engineering community, environmental sciences and economics to propose submissions of papers on, but not limited to, the following topics:
