The UIC Alliance of Universities was established in 2015 to promote the development of high-speed rail (HSR). The Alliance is a global academic network comprising universities, institutes of technology, polytechnic schools and engineering, architecture and business schools with proven substantial involvement in the development of HSR. The objectives of the Alliance are to promote and implement research programmes on HSR development, improve education in HSR, exchange and disseminate know-how between universities and UIC members and develop outstanding talent with HSR expertise. In this context, Professor Francesca Pagliara, member of the Alliance and Professor at the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School at the University of Naples Federico II, is pleased to launch a call for papers for the first international workshop on the socioeconomic impact of high-speed rail.
The aim of this workshop is to explore recent research on the analysis and quantification of the effects, both on economy and on society, of investments in HSR systems. The Scientific Committee will consider papers focusing on impact on equality and inclusion, the land use system, such as activity and residential location choice, the environment, the tourism industry, the property market, and pricing policies: project evaluation, competition, cooperation and integration with other transport modes, etc. Papers presenting either a theoretical or an empirical perspective will be accepted for presentation and discussion at the workshop. Some of the papers presented at the workshop may be selected for a special issue of the Journal of Socioeconomic Planning Sciences. The workshop is organised by the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School at the University of Naples Federico II and will be held online due to ongoing uncertainty in relation to the pandemic.
Keynote speaker: Marc Guigon, Director of UIC Passenger Department
