Ugo Valenti - Director Smart City Expo World Congress - is looking back at the last Smart City Expo as the complete 2021Report has been released. He's sharing with us his toughts and conclusions.
Therewere still masks and distancing, but SCEWC21 looked like the Smart City ExpoWorld Congress again. After nearly two years of restrictions, almost 15,000 attendees from 120 countries joined us to move the smart city industry forward together. A massive celebration of our 10th anniversary!
The event returned to Fira - Gran Via and reminded us that the ideas from meeting face-to-face, sharing a coffee, and collaboratively creating are irreplaceable. “SCEWC is the one place where we have meaningful conversations,” claimed Cassie Roach, Cisco’s VP of Global Public Sector.
“No problem in a city is going to be solved by any one party. It’s going to take public and private and civil society, and this event brings allof those parties together” – words from Jeremy Goldberg, Microsoft’s Worldwide Director of Critical Infrastructure. I couldn’t put it any better. Multilateralism is crucial within the particularly challenging current global scenario.
Cities included. Is it possible to realize a greener, 15-minute, inclusive city? How are cities rewriting their stories for the post-COVID era? The debates that took place at the Congress brought answers. “Post-pandemic cities need to prioritize collaboration and partnership because the challenges are severe. SCEWC is super important to create relationships and drive inclusive solutions”, according to Miguel Gamiño, Mastercard’s EVP & Head of GlobalCities
During three busy days at the expo and conference, we saw implemented strategies to foster a greener economy, real IoT solutions to tackle environmental problems, projects to enhance cybersecurity given increasing ransomware attacks, proposals to preserve privacy, and ethics incity management. The SCEWC21 experience encouraged us not to be hopeless!
